Could emotional literacy be more important than ABCs? 🤔 This week, inspired by The Colour Monster, we explored feelings through stories, play, art and conversation. Emotional literacy helps children recognise, understand and talk about their emotions, laying the foundations for confidence, friendships, resilience and school readiness. What does Elmer the Elephant teach children about emotional regulation? At Fun Box Day Nursery, we explored how stories, play and supportive relationships help children recognise, express and manage big feelings safely. Through colourful Elmer activities, emotional literacy games, messy play and storytelling, the children developed confidence, communication and resilience while learning that all feelings are welcome and that they do not have to manage them alone.

School readiness is about far more than numbers and letters. 🌱 This week at nursery, the children explored maps, music, independence and sensory play while building confidence, communication and curiosity through everyday experiences. We’ve been enjoying lots of outdoor play in the sunshine this week at Fun Box 🌞 From planting and water play to mark-making in coloured sand, the children have made the most of the lovely weather. With this in mind, we’re sharing why sunscreen for young children is so important and how we keep everyone safe while having fun outdoors.

Mother’s Day 2026 at Fun Box Day Nursery was celebrated with a special stay and play, cream tea and spring activities including planting, sensory play and outdoor learning.

World Book Day 2026 at Fun Box Day Nursery was a week full of imagination and storytelling. Children went on a bear hunt in the garden, explored messy porridge with Goldilocks, mixed colours with Pete the Cat, enjoyed outdoor story time and even tasted Paddington’s favourite marmalade sandwiches.

This week, children explored healthy choices at nursery through sensory vegetable play, food sorting, cooking vegetable soup, storytelling, and collaborative learning. From babies tasting vegetables to preschoolers categorising foods and developing fine motor skills, learning was practical, meaningful, and fun.

This week, the children explored the theme People Who Help Us, discovering real-life roles through hands-on play. They trained like firefighters, cooked like a chef, styled hair, fixed robots using tools, and explored hats and helmets. Through these activities, all EYFS areas came to life naturally as the children learned, imagined and worked together.

This November at Fun Box, children explored Remembrance Day through poppy crafts, number hunts and biscuit baking, followed by a heartfelt Children in Need pyjama day filled with Pudsey-themed activities.

Despite the rain, our Halloween Workshop 2025 at Fun Box Day Nursery was a joyful afternoon filled with laughter, creativity, and community spirit. Over fifty children and parents joined in pumpkin carving, crafts, face painting, and a spooky treasure hunt — making it a truly memorable Halloween celebration for all! 🎃👻
