This week at Fun Box Day Nursery, we celebrated a truly special occasion — Mother’s Day 2026 at Fun Box. It was a week filled with love, connection and meaningful moments, as well as plenty of hands-on learning inspired by the arrival of spring.

With sunshine brightening our days, the children enjoyed a variety of activities that combined creativity, exploration and time spent together with their families.

šŸ’• Mother’s Day 2026 at Fun Box – A Special Celebration

On Friday afternoon, we welcomed our lovely mums into the nursery for a cosy Cream Tea and Stay & Play sessionĀ as part of our Mother’s Day 2026 at Fun BoxĀ celebrations.

It was a truly heartwarming experience, giving mums the opportunity to spend quality time with their children in their nursery environment. Together, they shared stories, explored our garden activities and simply enjoyed being present with one another.

These shared experiences are incredibly important for children’s Personal, Social and Emotional Development, helping them feel secure, valued and proud to share their world with their families.

🌱 Spring Learning Through Play

Alongside our Mother’s Day 2026 at Fun BoxĀ celebrations, the children explored a wide range of spring-themed activities, developing their curiosity about the natural world.

šŸž Bug Hunting Sensory Play

The children became little explorers as they searched for insects hidden within a sensory rice tray. Using tweezers and ball scoopers, they carefully picked up different bugs with great focus and excitement.

This activity supported fine motor skillsĀ (Development Matters – Physical Development), while also encouraging children to notice and talk about different insects, supporting their understanding of the natural worldĀ (Understanding the World).

šŸŽØ Spring Flower Painting

Inspired by spring, the children painted beautiful flower bouquetsĀ using watercolours and delicate brushes.

This activity supported Expressive Arts and DesignĀ (creating with materials), allowing children to explore colour and creativity. The use of fine brushes also strengthened hand control and coordination, which are essential for early writing (Physical Development).

🐸 Exploring the Frog Life Cycle

Our sensory tray brought the frog life cycleĀ to life using chia seeds as frogspawn and green jelly for a rich sensory experience.

Through this activity, children explored growth and change in natureĀ (Understanding the World – the natural world), while also developing Communication and LanguageĀ by describing textures and sharing their thoughts. The hands-on nature of the activity supported Physical Development.

🌼 Planting and Growing

The children planted broad beans and colourful flowers, carefully using soil, watering cans and placing their pots into our mobile greenhouse.

This activity supported children’s understanding of how things growĀ (Understanding the World), while also strengthening fine motor skills. It also encouraged Personal, Social and Emotional Development, as children shared tools, took turns and cared for their plants.

šŸ’§ Watering Garden Creations

In the garden, the children enjoyed ā€œwateringā€ chalk flowers on the blackboard using spray bottles.

This fun activity supported Physical Development, while also encouraging sharing and turn-takingĀ (PSED – building relationships). It helped children make meaningful connections between imaginative play and real-life experiences.

🪱 Superworm Sensory Fun

A highlight of the week was the story of Superworm, which inspired a wonderfully engaging sensory activity. You can listen to the story herešŸ‘‰ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umlcB4hcNkQ

The children explored soil and colourful cooked spaghetti, representing worms, using their hands and tools to investigate textures and movement.

This activity supported LiteracyĀ (engagement with stories), Communication and Language, and Expressive Arts and Design, while also providing rich sensory input to support Physical Development.

🌷 A Week Full of Love and Learning

Our Mother’s Day 2026 at Fun BoxĀ celebrations made this week especially memorable. It was a joy to see children sharing their nursery experiences with their mums, alongside exploring the wonders of spring through play.

We are so proud of how the children continue to grow in confidence, curiosity and creativity each day.
