🚀 The Nursery That Flew to Space
Oh, the places we flew this week at our nursery door—
Though we started on Earth… we ended up more!
For first came a question (as good questions do):
“What’s it like on the moon? Can we walk there too?”
So we squished on some sponges, we strapped them on tight,
And we wobbled and bobbled in moon-walking flight.
We stomped and we hopped and we stretched out our toes—
“It’s tricky!” “It’s bouncy!” “It goes where it goes!”
Some nearly tipped over—then tried it once more,
For that’s what explorers (and learners!) are for.
Then snip-snap went scissors and swish-swash went glue,
As helmets were made for the whole astronaut crew.
Jetpacks were built (with a bottle or two),
All ready for zooming—three… two… one… WHOOSHOO!
”Where shall we travel?” “What shall we see?”
“A planet with sparkles!” “A rainbow for me!”
And what did we find? Oh, what did we find?
We found squishy spaghetti in colours that twined,
We found glittery sand that slipped through our hands,
We found rice that poured softly like faraway lands.
We scooped it, we stirred it, we tipped it, we tried,
We watched how it moved and we watched how it slid.
“It’s sticky!” “It’s shiny!” “It falls when I pour!”
So we did it again… and again… and once more!
Then drip-drop! drip-drop! went the paint on a plate,
Making planets that shimmered and swirled into shape.
Some had bright storms and some had blue seas,
One had a dinosaur (floating in breeze?!).
We watched colours mix, or stay far apart—
Tiny scientists, each with a curious heart.
Then WAIT! What is this? What’s that over THERE?
A rocket! A rocket! Appearing from where?!
With foil all shining and buttons galore,
And numbers to press (one! two! three! maybe four?).
We climbed in together—“Are we ready?” “We might!”
“Press something!” “This one!” “We’re going to FLIGHT!”
“I see stars!” “I see planets!” “I’m steering the way!”
(Though where we were going… we couldn’t quite say.)
Then out in the galaxy, sparkly and bright,
Were stars in a tray—what a glittering sight!
With ladles we scooped them (or gave it a go),
Some slipped away softly, some sank down below.
But try again, try again—that was the plan,
For that’s how you learn, every child, every fan.
And when it was home time, and bags were in hand,
And rockets stood still where they used to land…
Something was different—though quiet, though small—
The children stood taller. They’d given their all.
They’d balanced and built, they’d imagined and tried,
They’d wobbled, they’d wondered, they’d reached far and wide.
So if later you hear, as you’re making your tea,
“I went into space!” or “The moon’s hard, you see…”
Just smile and say, “Wow… tell me more of your flight.”
Because learning takes off
in the most curious ways…
when it feels just right. 🌙
