Can pulling a silly face really support big learning? This week, our All About Me activities explored PSED through mirrors, emotions, body awareness, families, Golden Rules and plenty of laughter. From recognising feelings to learning about kindness, sharing and belonging, we looked at how Personal, Social and Emotional Development grows through everyday nursery experiences.

Starting nursery, moving up to preschool, returning after the summer or beginning big school can all bring big feelings. We explore why separation anxiety and uncertainty are a natural part of transitions, how familiar routines and trusted relationships help children feel secure, and the practical ways Fun Box supports both children and parents as they settle into something new.

As the summer holidays came to an end, we celebrated the final week of the 2025–2026 academic year in true Fun Box style! This week we celebrated Pancake Day 2026 and Lunar New Year through hands-on play and cultural exploration. From flipping pancakes and tasting toppings to making Chinese fans, exploring red envelopes, noodle sensory trays, and dragon art, children developed fine motor skills, creativity, and cultural understanding in line with the EYFS.

This week’s winter learning in early years focused on care, creativity and exploration. Children explored winter clothing, health routines, emotions and Arctic themes through sensory play, art, ice experiments and hands-on learning. These experiences supported the EYFS, strengthening fine motor skills, early maths, communication and understanding of the world.

This week, the children explored the theme People Who Help Us, discovering real-life roles through hands-on play. They trained like firefighters, cooked like a chef, styled hair, fixed robots using tools, and explored hats and helmets. Through these activities, all EYFS areas came to life naturally as the children learned, imagined and worked together.

This November at Fun Box, children explored Remembrance Day through poppy crafts, number hunts and biscuit baking, followed by a heartfelt Children in Need pyjama day filled with Pudsey-themed activities.
