✨ There is no such thing as ‘just a little glitter’ — ask the carpet. ✨

Following on from last week, the children continued their festive activities in earnest. Christmas has arrived, creativity is flowing, and certain materials have been embraced with a level of enthusiasm that suggests restraint was never really an option.

Christmas Glitter Crafts in Nursery

This week, the children worked on their Christmas Folders, a tradition we return to every year. They decorated their folders and began filling them with festive creations, many of which now serve as solid evidence that glitter does not remain where it is initially placed and that "just a little glitter" is always tend to be more than you'd expect.

The children prepared reindeer food for Santa’s helpers 🦌

Created mini Christmas trees made from pine cones, paint, pompoms and glitter with admirable confidence 🌲✨

And conjured up snowflakes from lolly sticks and white paint ❄️.

There were also festive wreaths, made from paper plates, paint and additional glitter (because the previous amount clearly wasn’t enough) 🎨✨.

And no folder would be complete without Christmas cards for loved ones, thoughtfully assembled using collage materials and glue, and handled with great care — despite the surroundings.

🖐️ Fine Motor & Sensory Experiences

Between crafting sessions, the children took part in quieter activities designed to support fine motor development. In the sensory tray, brushes were used to move green coloured rice into Christmas tree shapes 🌲. This activity required focus, control and precision — and, mercifully, did not involve glitter.

🎁 A Visit from Mrs Santa

Later in the week, Mrs Santa arrived with a bag full of wrapped presents. The children examined each parcel carefully, feeling, shaking and considering what might be inside before sharing their guesses. The excitement was genuine, and the discovery that each gift contained a familiar favourite — a ball, a book or a toy truck — was met with clear approval 😊.

👶 Our Littlest Ones

Our youngest children explored Christmas through mark making, using pencils, paint sticks and shaving foam. Their senses were gently engaged with cinnamon-scented playdough and a Christmas-themed treasure basket 🎄. The Santa hats also made frequent appearances, occasionally travelling from head to head — and sometimes elsewhere 🎅.

It was a week full of making, sensory exploration and shared moments — the kind that results in proud children, full Christmas folders, and a light sparkle that will likely continue to appear in unexpected places for some time ✨
