This week, as a build-up to World Book Day 2025 (https://www.worldbookday.com/), we immersed ourselves in some traditional fairy tales at Fun Box!
Fairy Tales at Fun Box are more than just stories
Our activities didnāt just focus on Communication and Language DevelopmentĀ or Literacyāthey approached fairy tales from a holistic perspective, enhancing childrenās knowledge and understanding across all seven learning areas. (For more information see: https://www.gov.uk/early-years-foundation-stage )
Jack and the Beanstalk š±
Even our younger children had great fun in the garden "climbing"Ā our number beanstalk while recognizing numerals and counting leaves and steps. This simple activity helped to combine Mathematical Development with the joy of Physical Activity.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff š
Our Three Billy Goats Gruff tray gave children a 3D experienceĀ of this traditional fairy tale. They could re-enact the story using small world models, bringing the adventure to life! Apart from enhancing their Understanding of the World, they also expanded their Literacy and Communication skills.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears š»
We explored this all-time favoriteĀ from several perspectives:
Sensory Tray ā Even the youngest children had great fun exploring different textures and experimenting with measuring capacity. They were unknowingly combining their mathematical understanding and creative development.
Matching Game ā The children had an engaging time matching Baby Bear, Mama Bear, and Daddy BearĀ to their beds and chairs; exploring mathematical concepts, reasoning and problem solving.
Teddy Bear Picnic š§ŗĀ ā Of course, we couldn't finish exploring the story without a little teddy bear picnic in the garden, enriching childrenās imagination and enhancing their communication skills as they replay the story.
The Three Little Pigs š·
This classic tale offered amazing multi-area learning opportunities:
The children explored concepts like big and small, hard and soft, light and heavyĀ by building small-scaleĀ houses using sticks, bricks, and clay, as well as large-scaleĀ structures using boxes and other materials.
They honed their teamwork and interpersonal skills by working together.
A story basketĀ encouraged children to retell the story independently, fostering creativity and confidence.
