Continuing with our Autumn theme, our children have been exploring the season in so many exciting, hands-on ways this week! šāØ
Lena surprised everyone with a wonderful pack of felt trees, leaves and acornsĀ ā and even brought along a soft toy squirrelĀ to join in the fun! šæļø The children loved creating their own little autumn trees and were thrilled when Brown SquirrelĀ came to visit (we changed the classic Grey Squirrel, Grey SquirrelĀ song to fit our cuddly brown friend!). šµš These creative and musical activities support Expressive Arts and Design (Creating with Materials and Being Imaginative and Expressive), helping children develop imagination, coordination and confidence through play and song. šØš¶
Lauren also prepared a gorgeous autumn sensory tray, filled with colourful leaves, twigs, and natural treasures for the children to explore. ššæ There was so much chatter about colours, shapes and sizes ā perfect for promoting mathematical language in line with Mathematics (Shape, Space and Measure). šŗš¢šø The children compared leaves, sorted them by size, and even counted how many they could find of each colour!
Unity and Alisha brought even more creativity into the room with printing activities. šØ Using vegetables, the children printed autumn trees, while LEGO blocks made perfect stamps for decorating large paper leaves of different shapes. š§±š These fun sessions encouraged both fine motor skills and imagination, beautifully linking to Physical Development (Fine Motor Skills)Ā and Expressive Arts and Design (Creating with Materials).
Meanwhile, our littlest explorers had their own share of messy fun! š¶šļø The babies painted a large autumn tree using their handprints ā they absolutely loved feeling the paint between their fingers and watching the colours mix. š They also joined in singing and dancing to āAll the Leaves Are Falling Downā, waving big paper leaves as they fluttered to the ground. šµš
As an added extra, some of our real autumn friends made an appearance in the garden ā the children spotted a slugĀ š and a few rather peculiar-looking insects! š This sparked some lovely conversations about the natural world, perfectly supporting Understanding the World (The Natural World)Ā as children observe and make sense of the environment around them. šš¬
Autumn is truly a season full of wonder, colour and curiosityĀ ā and here at Fun Box Day Nursery, weāre loving every moment of watching the children discover it. šš
